The American War at #1, and Three More Books on the Way

It's been a remarkable few months, and the summer ahead is going to be busier still. A Date with Infamy, Book 1 of The American War, has spent the past five weeks at #1 in Amazon's Alternate History category. The Gathering Storm sits directly behind it at #2, and the reason it's at #2 is that A Date with Infamy is the only book above it. Watching readers finish Book 1 and immediately move to Book 2 has been one of the most rewarding parts of this journey. It tells me you're finding the world I built, and you want to stay in it. There's a lot to share about what's coming. Next Friday, May 22, The Unnecessary War launches the European War series.

Where The American War asked what would have happened if America had broken Japan's codes before Pearl Harbor, The Unnecessary War begins with a different fracture. On October 4, 1938, Neville Chamberlain dies, and Winston Churchill takes Britain into a war it cannot avoid, fought on a different continent against the same darkness. The European War will run roughly eight books, converging with The American War at El Alamein in 1942 before continuing on its own arc beyond the Pacific theater's end. On June 26, The Deep Pacific lands as Book 3 of The American War. The war pushes into Japan's home waters, the Solomons turn green and bloody, and Jack Gibson confronts the kind of decisions a fighter pilot can never quite leave behind. There's a lot in this book that took years of family conversation to write, including a scene I've wanted to put on the page since I was eight years old. On July 23, The Burning Continent picks up where The Unnecessary War leaves off. Two campaigns now, both running, both demanding everything from the men and women caught in them. That's three new books in nine weeks, on top of the two already published. By the end of July, The American War will be at Book 3 of 5, and The European War will be at Book 2 of approximately 8.

A few more things in the works. Audiobooks are in the works. The honest reason? My wife hates reading books. She asked me for an audiobook of mine, so I figured, all right, let's make this happen. For anyone else who'd rather listen than read, hang in there with me. The series is also reaching international readers in the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia, with more markets to follow. I'll be attending two conventions later this summer. Dragon Con over Labor Day weekend in Atlanta (application submitted, fingers crossed for guest status), and WorldCon / LAcon V in Anaheim, August 27 to 31. If you're attending either, I'd love to meet you. There will be panels, signings, and probably at least one late-night conversation about what really happened at Pearl Harbor, or what could have. Thank you for reading. Thank you for telling friends. Thank you for the messages. Every one of them lands. Every great story begins with family. Brian
